Andre – Still the Premier Restaurant in Singapore

Restaurant Andre remains on top of my list for fine-dining restaurants in Singapore. My one gripe is that dinner here is quite pricey so coming for lunch was much more palatable and no less satisfying. Frankly, its two Michelin stars were no surprise to me. I've always found that Chef Andre's cooking is pleasingly creative but easy to eat as well and that his standards are on par with that of many illustrious restaurants elsewhere.

Andre only serves a set menu and lunch consisted of a...

Corner House – Starred Dining in the Botanical Gardens

Located in a colonial black & white house in Singapore's Botanical Gardens, Corner House is one of the country's inaugural one-star Michelin restaurants. Does the food measure up to expectations? Probably - there were certainly highlights - I like Chef Jason Tan's seafood dishes and dessert was better than some similar restaurants. The cuisine is probably best described as modern French but some dishes had an Asian accent and the dessert notably had a local twist with the use of...

Odette – Divine Dining if Not For the Wine Pairing

Odette's signature egg dish

One of Singapore's more highly lauded fine dining restaurants since it opened in late 2015, Odette's food definitely deserves its accolades. In fact, it's likely to be one of those with Michelin stars when the inaugural list for Singapore is published in July. In short, the food is good but our experience was marred by a rather bizarre wine pairing that seemed to fight Chef Julien Royer's creations rather than to complement them (at least in my simple non-expert view - I've seen contrary...

Terra – Italian with a Tokyo Touch

Terra Singapore

Terra restaurant is proof again that a Japanese twist on western products and food often surpasses the original. Chef Seita Nakamura's cuisine is firmly rooted in what he terms "Tokyo Italian", which is recognisably Italian but with ingredients that are Japanese. If done well, and Terra does, the traditional European dishes have a more subtle touch and some novelty.

Located on Tras Street in Singapore, which is now home to a number of good eateries, Terra is open Mondays to...

L’Astrance’s Pascal Barbot Guest Chefs at Shangri-La Blu

A short stint by Pascal Barbot of Michelin 3-starred L'Astrance in Shangri-La's Blu restaurant gave us in Singapore a chance to try the renowned chef's cooking. I've been trying to get into L'Astrance on my occasional trips to Paris and when I found out he'd be cooking in Singapore, I jumped at the opportunity. Although it's never the same as eating in his eatery itself given that we won't necessarily get all the good produce here, I think that there is so much more available here nowadays...
