My favourite gourmet burger joint in Singapore is currently Wildfire, which for me is handily located near the Botanical Gardens. High-grade beef patties are grilled and served in toasted brioche buns. Besides the lunchtime burger fare, they also do some really good breakfast/brunch burgers – sort of like a grown up Egg McMuffin.

One of the reasons the burgers are good here is the brioche bun. Firstly, I think it’s the perfect size – so the meat to bread ratio is balanced. Secondly, brioche is soft and buttery and when it’s toasted, it melts in your mouth.

The condiments vary from burger to burger. There are classics like a triple bacon burger, Asian burgers such as a Sriracha chicken burger and the specialty burgers using top grade beef. My personal favourite so far is the top end dry aged Angus burger. It’s served with cheddar cheese, baby cornichons and caramelised onions on a bed of lettuce and tomato. The beef patties are cooked medium, which is ideal for me, and therefore the meat is still juicy.

Most of the burgers are served from noon onwards, which would be one of my gripes – I think they should start serving the burgers at 11 am. However, there are decent breakfast dishes as well with my favourite being the breakfast burger consisting of lyonnaise sausage and scrambled eggs in the same brioche bun. They also do a decent corned beef hash – if anyone is looking for this diner mainstay in Singapore. For me, the only disappointing items would be the hot dogs – too small a dog in a big bun.

The sides are also pretty good – we like the kale salad for something a bit healthier. All the burgers come with thick cut fries so it’s probably not necessary to order these separately although there are chili fries and umami fries on the menu. I’d say the onion rings are okay but the problem is that sometimes the onions are not as sweet or substantial so you do end up tasting more batter than onion.

The only dessert are specialty ice cream cookies that you can select from their freezer. These are made by a third party. The chocolate is decent but I thought the other combinations underwhelmed in taste.
Drinks-wise, there is a large variety of beer. I suppose given Wildfire’s back patio area, it’s not a bad place to relax with some beer in the evening. However, I’ve only ever come here for breakfast or lunch after a morning walk/jog in the Botanical Gardens. It more than undoes my morning exercise but I don’t feel so bad.
Hi Lorraine: Wildfire sounds great, must try.
p/s: Your writeup/photos reminds me of Olivo bistro/bakery. (https://www.facebook.com/pages/OLIVO-Bistro-Bakery/968726263142649 )
We should organise our own “Food Wars Asia”-type comparison, to see which burgers you prefer 🙂
Olivo’s Chef Samuel is passionate about flavourful healthier food (no MSG; and lower sugar/salt).
Simple but yummy gourmet burgers/ pulled pork sandwiches/ great cakes & creme brulee.
He’s also open to suggestions for off-menu/new menu items, so we can be his guinea pigs.
I definitely agree – we must do a burger comparison. Let me know when!
