Meat Smith – Not Quite Smokin’ Hot

Meat Smith Singapore

The frustrating thing about Meat Smith, in my view, is that it can be really good but at this stage the taste is a bit lacking in some dishes. If this can be tweaked, then I expect there will be even more reason to return. Nonetheless, if you work in the area and are looking for a decent lunch or after work drinks, this is not a bad place to go.

The star item on the menu should be the Black Angus beef rib, which is apparently slow cooked for 14 hours. Unfortunately, while the meat is...

Tokyo’s Sasagin – Great Food and Sake in this Izakaya

Sasagin Izakaya

There is a lot of good food in Japan - essentially places that mainly locals go and Sasagin would be one such neighbourhood izakaya. Izakaya, in my mind, are like pubs or tapas bars where the focus is on the drinks and generally decent food happens to be served as an accompaniment. Kyoto – One Day in the Eastern Districts

Silver Pavilion

The main sites to visit in Kyoto’s eastern districts include the Shugakuin Imperial Villa, Ginkaku-ji (Silver Pavilion) and Eikando Zenrin-ji. The Philosopher’s Walk, is an easy path to stroll down, linking Ginkaku-ji to Eikando Zenren-ji and another temple Nanzen-ji. This makes spending one day in this area a nicely contained itinerary.

If I had to rank the top sites to visit in this area, they would be Shugakuin, Eikando temple, and Ginkaku-ji. So if you’re short on time, make...

Paris – Just Hanging Out in Montmartre

Montmartre

To be honest, I've not done much sightseeing in Paris for some time. So on a recent trip, I took a stroll around Montmartre on a late afternoon just to enjoy the sunny day. It was actually really nice just to sit on the steps of the Sacre Coeur, take a look at some of the unique stores and then have a good dinner at Le Coq Rico.

Paris has long been my favourite European city - largely due to my interest in art history - and very much because of its bridges, architecture and its...

Paris’ Spring Restaurant – Crowd Pleasing

Update: Alas, Spring has closed (2018) but chef Daniel Rose has opened other eateries  in Paris as well as New York.

Spring is a popular restaurant in the shadow of the Louvre in Paris. It's dinner degustation was pleasing and wallet friendly and I can see why it has garnered a strong following. While I personally preferred the restaurant David Toutain, it remains nonetheless a place I would recommend friends to try if they don't want the fanfare or cost of a...
