Occasionally I check back to see how some of the restaurants I enjoyed in prior trips are doing. La Place de Mougins, located in the hills of the Cote d’Azur (in Mougins), is a restaurant that I thought would be on its way to getting a Michelin star. However, it still hasn’t happened although it has been recognised by the guide. I’m sure this doesn’t detract from the positive reviews it is getting anyway from patrons, ranked first among restaurants in Mougins by TripAdvisor.com. The chef Denis Fetisson (previously two-starred at Courcheval) describes his food as being creative but it’s not to the degree that you see in molecular cooking where dishes are deconstructed. In anycase, this is a restaurant of good value in the south of France and worth making a point to visit if you’re in the hills of Vence. The menu changes regularly and with what’s in season. They do a good vegetarian menu as well. Lunch currently costs EUR27 and a dinner tasting menu starts at EUR60.
