Seattle – Take a Ferry to Bainbridge Island

Bainbridge Island ferry

For a view of Seattle’s city skyline, I took a ferry to Bainbridge Island. Going on a Saturday morning also meant I could check out the farmers’ market – a big plus as I discovered a most amazing cinnamon bun. The ferry ride is an easy 35 minutes and you also get sight of Mt Rainier looming over the sound on the way.

I’m in Seattle for a week visiting relatives and with the unusual run of dry weather, keen to take a bunch of photos. One of the nicest views of the city can be seen from the ferry so my aunt and I decided to take a trip to Bainbridge Island.

We were lucky that our trip coincided with the weekly farmers’ market. I love browsing farmers’ markets – usually there’s good food to try and buy. While this was a small market, we still ended up picking up some very sweet and fresh sugar snap peas that we ate along the way and bought a pork jowl and chorizo sausages for dinner and very good goat’s cheese seasoned with thyme and white pepper. And last but not least, I had the best cinnamon bun I’ve ever had from Coquette bakery.

I took the 7:55am ferry over and the 10:25 am ferry back to Seattle. There are regular crossings. It’s an easy 15 minute walk from the ferry terminal on the island to the farmers’ market and the town centre.

Bainbridge Island is also popular for its nature trails and biking routes.
