Lobster Bobo – Lots More than Lobster

Update: Lobster Bobo has since moved and closed.

Tucked in a non-descript corner in Hong Kong's Sheung Wan area is Lobster Bobo by Eddy where I found really good quality seafood prepared by the former chef of Hong Kong's chief executive. While lobster dishes are a highlight, this casual eatery also does an amazing multi-course tasting menu that changes monthly.

Because of its simple surroundings and plating, I'd describe Lobster Bobo as home cooking if you just...

Mak’s Noodles – A Hong Kong Favourite Hits Singapore

A bowl of Wonton noodles

Hong Kong has the best wonton noodles because the noodles are springy while the wontons are almost a whole prawn. So when the famous Hong Kong wonton eatery Mak's Noodles opened a branch in Singapore, I was really keen to check it out. As a comparison, during a recent trip to Hong Kong, I dropped in on the original. PS. Cafe Petit’s Local Goodies

Malaysian-Indonesian fried rice with satay

PS. Cafe Petit at St. Martin Road features some excellent takes on local favourites: Sup Kambing, Prawn Noodle, Rickshaw Noodle, Nasi Goreng among others. Boruto – For a Sake Fix with Decent Food

Boruto Singapore tapas

My friends and I wanted to have a decent meal but nothing too long and too precious so we dropped in on Boruto for good sake based drinks and decent bites. This izakaya is about its sake drinks, homemade umeshu and largely uncomplicated tapas. Enjoyable dishes include its nicely grilled spare rib, stuffed chicken wing and deep fried pork belly. My main gripe is probably its downstairs seating which felt bit too spartan.

Boruto is the sister restaurant of Tamashii Robataya (see...

D.Bespoke Bar – If Don Draper was Japanese

After the influx of sake bars in town and the success of Japanese whiskeys in global competitions, it shouldn't be surprising to now find a Japanese whiskey bar in Singapore. D.Bespoke Bar is a "Japanese style" bar - the type you find in Ginza's basements with leather, brass touches and wooden bar tops. With its discreet entrance, Don Draper would be at home here.

Located near the top end (#2) of Bukit Pasoh Road, the bar is not immediately evident when you enter as there is a second...
