Jade Palace – The Place to Go for Cantonese Food in Singapore

Sweet & Sour Iberico pork

Jade Palace is a well established Hong Kong style cantonese cuisine restaurant in Singapore. After more than 20 years, I think it is still the "go to" eatery for cantonese dining which is testament to the restaurant's consistency and focus on serving quality dishes.  We wanted to introduce our Italian wine maker friends to some Australian wines recently and thus, had a menu of some better known standards along with some new creations.

One of the outstanding staples on Jade Palace's...

Singapore – Ashino at Chijmes has Great Sushi

Red sea urchin sushi

Ashino is the latest in high-end specialty sushi restaurants in Singapore but is unique as some of its fish is cured leaving it tender but tasty. Much like counterparts in Japan, this restaurant only seats ten diners around a sushi master. While I also like the other sushi places in town, I think that Ashino ranks highest for me in terms of the quality of its sushi.

Sushi chef Taku Ashino, who was formerly at Marina Bay Sands' Hide Yamamoto, now has full rein to unleash his sushi in a...

Casse Croute – French Charcuterie in Singapore

Excellent terrine and pate at Casse Croute in Singapore

Update: Casse Croute has closed but chef Patrick Hueberger is now at Atout, a much more comfortable restaurant in Singapore's Dempsey area. The charcuterie is still good.

Casse Croute is the new baby of Chef Patrick Hueberger, formerly of Au Petit Salut and Bistro du Sommelier in Singapore. Limited...

Lollapalooza – Concert for the Taste Buds

Singapore tapas

Update: Lollapalooza has closed.

Newcomer to Singapore’s tapas dining scene Lollapalooza is a class act. Every course was tasty and nicely cooked while the staff were among the sharpest and most knowledgeable that I’ve encountered in Singapore recently. The menu is also fairly varied offering a good selection to choose from which also makes it a bit difficult to define the cuisine - so let’s just say it’s Mediterranean. The drawbacks are slight with one being a rather uninspiring...

&Sons – The Right Formula of Quick Bites in the CBD

&Sons bacaro

I can see myself coming down to the CBD on a weekend just to  eat at &Sons, a casual Italian restaurant serving really good quality food at decent prices. While the weekday lunchtime menu is of particularly decent value, we were especially happy with the a la carte pasta and appetisers. Portions are a decent size so that we could share one appetiser among four of us - a great way to try more from the menu.

&Sons refer to themselves as a "bacaro" - a name normally linked to...
