One Day in the Cap d’Antibes

Antibes port

Despite the rainy start, our morning in Antibes followed by an afternoon walk around the cape ended up being my favourite day in France's Cote d'Azur. Like many of the towns along this coast, Antibes is a fishing village but unlike its better known neighbours like Cannes and St Tropez, it's largely devoid of the glitzy commercialisation. And after our afternoon walk around the scenic cape (Cap d'Antibes), we celebrated with champagne at the majestic Hotel du...

Paris – Just Hanging Out in Montmartre

Montmartre

To be honest, I've not done much sightseeing in Paris for some time. So on a recent trip, I took a stroll around Montmartre on a late afternoon just to enjoy the sunny day. It was actually really nice just to sit on the steps of the Sacre Coeur, take a look at some of the unique stores and then have a good dinner at Le Coq Rico.

Paris has long been my favourite European city - largely due to my interest in art history - and very much because of its bridges, architecture and its...

Paris’ Spring Restaurant – Crowd Pleasing

Update: Alas, Spring has closed (2018) but chef Daniel Rose has opened other eateries  in Paris as well as New York.

Spring is a popular restaurant in the shadow of the Louvre in Paris. It's dinner degustation was pleasing and wallet friendly and I can see why it has garnered a strong following. David Toutain – Fun and Fresh French Dining

David Toutain food

Of the restaurants I went to my last trip to Paris, David Toutain is the one that I want to go back to and the one that I have no hesitation in recommending. While the restaurants of Paris’ well known chefs - Joel Robuchon, Alain Ducasse, etc. - remain highlights of any trip to Paris, I find I have an increasing preference for eating food by the younger set. I think it’s partly due to the more casual ambience and less costly menus, but in many ways, I think the food holds a little more...

Pic of the Day – Monaco

With the Monaco Grand Prix occurring this weekend, I was reminded of my trip there in September 2013. I have to admit that the principality has never been one of my favourite destinations – but this is partly because I generally end up here after some spots along the Cote d’Azure with less cement and fewer people. I took this picture of docked boats during an early morning walk around the town. Shot at focal length 190 mm.
