Good Food and Views are Worth the Journey
Southwestern Tuscany, namely the province of Grosseto in the Maremma area, is not as well visited as the rest of the region but I was out here in April to pay a visit to a winery and found some great food and views along the way. This was our fist stop in a wine tour of Italy, and the highlights here include a visit to the Mantellassi winery, the walled cities of Pitigliano and Magliano and the best tortello of our trip.

Taverna Trilussa serves really good traditional Roman food simply cooked in a rustic setting. In short, it's a great place to go if you're looking for something local. I think the highlight was definitely the pasta, which is served straight out of the pan.

Had a cheerful and reasonably priced Amarone, the Nicolis Ambrosan 2007, with my dinner (minced lamb with eggs, pistachios and pine nuts from the Jerusalem cookbook by the Ottolenghi pair) tonight. Goes well with meat.
