Palau Guell – Must See this Early Gaudi Masterpiece

Gaudi building

Palau Guell is, in my view, a must-see Antoni Gaudi building in Barcelona. As it's still relatively lesser known than Casa Batlo and La Sagrada Familia I don't think it's as crowded, which makes for an enjoyable visit. And with its location not far from the Barri Gotic, it's a convenient add on to a walk around the old quarter of Barcelona.

Antoni Gaudi, probably the best known art-nouveau era architect in the world, has left Barcelona with a number of amazing edifices. La Sagrada...

Photo – Corfu, Greece

Looking over to Corfu’s Old Fortress. We walked around Corfu’s waterfront to where I could get this view back over the water -Ionian Sea – at this historic Venetian fortress (Corfu was under the rule of the Venetian dukes from the early 14th century until 1797). Shot in May 2011 using Fujifilm Velvia 50 (non-digital, Carl Zeiss 80-200mm lens).

Santorini – For the Best Views, Walk to Oia

Santorini

The walk along Santorini's caldera to Oia from Fira is one of the best and most scenic walks I've ever done. As it is, Santorini is stunning and you can get a lot of iconic Greek isle photos along this route. And at the end of the walk, grab a good lunch or dinner in Oia.

We walked in the morning, starting the 9km walk from Fira - following the signs from the cable car in the direction of Imerovigli. After this it's fairly evident that there's only one path going toward Oia. Other...

Mugaritz – Fun but a Bit Strange

Mugaritz food

San Sebastian's Michelin two-starred Mugaritz gets polarising reviews and I wanted to find out why so I went recently to try out the restaurant. The best way I would describe the food is that it's exploratory and really tests diners' boundaries in some cases. So, while I didn't enjoy all the courses, I really had a good time because on the whole it was fun. The wine probably helped in this case as did going with open-minded and adventurous friends.

The restaurant is degustation /...

Northwest Spain – Cliff Notes on the Flysch Route

Flysch cliffs

I had a grand plan to walk at least half of the 15km Flysch Route, a cliff top walk along the coast south of San Sebastian between Zumaia and Deba. However, the tourist information office in Zumaia looked at us and recommended that we just walk out to the view point. I guess we looked that unprepared. Nonetheless, I'm grateful for their advice because the seemingly short 4km excursion actually kept us occupied for two hours.

The Flysch Route gets its name from a particular rock...
