Corner House – Starred Dining in the Botanical Gardens

Located in a colonial black & white house in Singapore's Botanical Gardens, Corner House is one of the country's inaugural one-star Michelin restaurants. Does the food measure up to expectations? Probably - there were certainly highlights - I like Chef Jason Tan's seafood dishes and dessert was better than some similar restaurants. The cuisine is probably best described as modern French but some dishes had an Asian accent and the dessert notably had a local twist with the use of...

Odette – Divine Dining if Not For the Wine Pairing

Odette's signature egg dish

One of Singapore's more highly lauded fine dining restaurants since it opened in late 2015, Odette's food definitely deserves its accolades. In fact, it's likely to be one of those with Michelin stars when the inaugural list for Singapore is published in July. In short, the food is good but our experience was marred by a rather bizarre wine pairing that seemed to fight Chef Julien Royer's creations rather than to complement them (at least in my simple non-expert view - I've seen contrary...

Hong Kong’s Lung King Heen – Still One of the Finer Cantonese Restaurants Anywhere

It's always a treat to eat at Hong Kong's Lung King Heen restaurant, one of the finest cantonese restaurants probably anywhere in the world. Although I've had plenty of equally satisfying cantonese meals elsewhere, especially for cheaper if you factor in the premium Michelin 3-star pricing at Lung King Heen, I don't think any of the others equal in terms of how elegant the cooking actually is. Much of this is reflected in the sauces which just seem very fine at Lung King Heen.

L’Astrance’s Pascal Barbot Guest Chefs at Shangri-La Blu

A short stint by Pascal Barbot of Michelin 3-starred L'Astrance in Shangri-La's Blu restaurant gave us in Singapore a chance to try the renowned chef's cooking. I've been trying to get into L'Astrance on my occasional trips to Paris and when I found out he'd be cooking in Singapore, I jumped at the opportunity. Although it's never the same as eating in his eatery itself given that we won't necessarily get all the good produce here, I think that there is so much more available here nowadays...

Mirazur in Menton – Good but No “Wow” Factor

On paper, Mirazur is set up to be a highly memorable meal with its location outside Monaco overlooking the coast and its Michelin two-star standing and well regarded chef but it ended up being a meal that just fell short of being really good. Perhaps it was because it was lunch and the sun's rays through Mirazur's full length windows made the restaurant a tad too warm to be comfortable. But it may also be that we already had a fantastic meal at the Chèvre d'Or in Eze with a stunning...
