Kehinde Wiley – Catch His Works

One of the my favourite young american artists, Kehinde Wiley, showed a series of works at the Seattle Art Museum and I was lucky enough to be town during the exhibit which ran till May 8, 2016. Kehinde is best known for his portraits of African Americans whom he places in historically well known classical artwork poses. In doing so, he elevates the models he finds off the streets of Brooklyn or elsewhere into positions usually reserved for those with higher status. The exhibit titled...

Seattle – July 4th Firework Photos

I managed to get to one of the waterfront areas in Seattle with a view of the fireworks last night on July 4th. The main event actually takes place at Gasworks Park on Lake Union – which gets really crowded with people gathering there from the morning. Not something I wanted to do at 92 degree (F) heat. But it was nice just to catch some shots from a distant spot on Lake Union.

It’s July 4th here in the U.S. – lots of fireworks. Not sure I’ll get out there to take photos given the traffic but here is a shot of the Seattle skyline with Mt. Rainier in the right background at twilight.

Seattle’s Chihuly Exhibit – Glass Distinction

The Dale Chihuly exhibit, Garden and Glass, at the Seattle Center is a must see. The glassworks are a feast of color and design and while I've seen his chandeliers before in building lobbies, to see the sculptures in a garden is special. The large scale works are also incredible - an explosion of color and shapes against dark walls and a black mirrored surface adds to the drama.
